Reason 1 why Peeta was named Peeta: His father was a baker, it's not obvious that he was going to call him that but still. 2. Peeta means Pita bread and Peeta is a baker so it was a little obvious that his parents were going to name him after a bread.

Reason 1 why Katniss was named Katniss: Her father was an archer. 2. He named her after the plant because they used to dig them up together to eat. 3. He was probably planning on teaching her archery ever since she was born.
